Homegating with Family, Friends and KettlePizza is a Little Slice of Heaven

Posted on

The NFL can lay claim to being the largest live spectator sport on the planet in terms of average attendance with close to 20 million people filling seats at stadiums throughout the US each season.  That’s close to 70,000 fans per stadium on any given Sunday.  And as we know, most of these fans — with their SUVs and pick-ups stocked with grills and coolers filled with burgers and dogs and wings and brew, treating each trek to their home team’s stadium more like a pilgrimage than a road trip — are season ticket holders. So a big percentage of the 20 million are attending games on a weekly basis.

But what about the rest of us?Tailgating

While attending a game in person can be lots of fun, enjoying a “no-traffic” NFL football Sunday in the more intimate and cozy setting of a warm house filled with family and friends and high fives – and of course, pizza, because “pizza is the new hamburger” <The Today Show video> — is a great alternative.

For the majority of us, that’s our world. The world of “homegating”, where replacing the possibility of foul weather, big crowds and the time and money associated with attending an NFL game with the comfort of one’s own home – or a friend’s – is priceless.  As we know from many of our customers, homegating with KettlePizza is a growing trend.

One of the primary reasons why we came up with the idea for KettlePizza was that we wanted to provide a product that would become the centerpiece for almost any environment where friends and family gather to enjoy each other’s company.  Since it was invented in the late 1800’s in Naples, Italy, pizza has been a food that isn’t only delicious and nutritious (just try not to eat the whole pie!), but is best enjoyed when shared with others.  Whether it be a birthday celebration, a backyard Halloween party, a Friday night get together or a NFL football Sunday, chances are pizza will be part of the mix.

Granted, we’re a bit biased, but we think KettlePizza marries the best of all worlds when it comes to a family and friends get together at home — aka homegating – on a Sunday or on any other day.

The warm glow of a wood-fired pizza oven before, during and after the game, friends and family members preparing favorite toppings for the next pie, your grilling skills the talk of the neighborhood…well, that’s a little slice of heaven.

With a Made in the USA KettlePizza in your backyard, the countdown to your next homegating event will begin as soon as the final whistle blows at the end of the game.

KettlePizza vs. Traditional Pizza Oven – Which is the Best Outdoor Pizza Oven for You?

Posted on Updated on

Many people have dreams of having a real brick or stone pizza oven in their back yard.  I can’t blame them!  Some people even want to build their own, thinking it would be a fun project.  I get calls from these people often who start these projects and then can’t find the time to finish.  They find the KettlePizza is a way to get started with an inexpensive pizza oven.  This post is to give people a comparison of the KettlePizza and a traditional pizza oven.

Cost:
A 22.5″ KettlePizza with a Weber Kettle Grill will cost you between $180.00 and $500 depending on the setup that you choose.  A traditional pizza oven will most likely costs at least $1000 and that is if you do the work yourself.  If you have it installed expect $2500-5000.

Mobility:  You can move a KettlePizza & Weber combo wherever you want as it is on wheels.  With a weight between 50 and 100 pounds you can transport it easily as well.  A traditional pizza oven will be set in place and is not movable.

Startup Time:  The KettlePizza takes about 20 minutes to get the charcoal/hardwood to temperature.  Add another 20 minutes if you are using a stone.  Most traditional pizza ovens take at least 1 1/2 hours to get to temperature.

Flexibility:  Removing the KettlePizza insert takes about 30 seconds and you are left with a kettle grill.  Better yet, keep it on and cook other food types using the double stack method (see video below).  Traditional pizza ovens are great for cooking other foods as well once you get used to them.

In summary, a traditional pizza oven is awesome as long as you have the money, space, and time  to use it.  For those who don’t, the KettlePizza may be a nice alternative for you.  And don’t forget, we make the KettlePizza entirely in the USA.  People interested in purchasing can go to Amazon.com to see our offering.

Posted on Updated on

I wanted to pass along an email I recently received by one of my customers:

“Dear Al, I just wanted to tell you how happy we are with the KettlePizza product that we recently purchased.  This thing is great!  We used it on 4th of July weekend at a family reunion on Cape Cod, MA.  It took us a couple times to get the heat just right – it would helped if we read the instructions first 🙂 .  After that we had a steady stream of great tasting pizzas.  The family loved them and we all had lots of fun.  They were also happily suprised to hear that the product is Made in USA – great suprise for Independence Day!  Thanks again and we wish you luck with the business!”  Marissa T.  Boston, MA

KettlePizza Pro Peel now available for sale

When I went searching for a “Made in USA” pizza peel to supply with the KettlePizza I was very disappointed.  Almost all of the peels are made in China and many of them are not very high quality.  To make matters worse, the pricing of the Chinese products seem to be going up every month.  I decided to go it alone and design my own peel.  This new product is made of 0.100″ 5052 aluminum with teak handles.  This product is built to last and people will enjoy the integrated bottle opener for quick opening of your favorite beverage.  The KettlePizza Pro Peel is now available for purchase.  Retail price is $39.95 and they are available at our corporate store http://www.afclancer1store.com/kettlepizza.html  and on Ebay.

Video released of KettlePizza with Weber Performer charcoal grill

The Weber Performer and KettlePizza insert is a killer combination for outdoor pizza.  This combo, which retails under $500, will compete head to head with professional grade outdoor pizza ovens that cost ten times the price.  This video shows the combination in use.

Finally Cooked on the Weber Performer – Awesome Machine!

Posted on

I finally got to try out my Weber Performer grill with the KettlePizza SS insert on it.  This thing is a pizza cooking machine!  The performer has a small “Coleman type” propane tank to help get the charcoal up to temp faster.  It worked just as advertised and it took about 10-15 minutes to get the charcoal where I wanted it.  Then I pushed the coals to the rear of the kettle to get the heat circulating up from the rear of the grill.  I used my newly manufactured Pro Pizza Peel to push the coals back.  I then added some hardwood on top of the coals for extra heat and added the KettlePizza insert and lid.  Soon afterwards I was cooking some serious pizzas!

I cooked pizzas both on a stone and on a pan.  I had to give the stone about 30 minutes to really get to temperature.  I like to use a pan for pizzas if they have lots of toppings as those type pizzas don’t slide off the peels as easy.  Aside from some great tasting pizza (OK truth be told I did burn two but it still tasted good), I was really excited to use my newly designed and manufactured Pro Pizza Peel.  This thing is as heavy-duty a pizza peel as you can get.  The  0.100″ aluminum was super strong, yet light and the pizza slid off great!

I’ll cook on the performer again soon and get some more pictures.
