Cookin in the Rain With the KettlePizza
Have you tried using your Weber Kettle Grill in the rain? How about heavy wind? Well, my experience has been that when the rain and wind interact with the charcoal, grey coal dust covers your food. No fun. With the KettlePizza your food is protected from both the rain and wind. I like to use a skillet in my KettlePizza where I cook fish, veggies, steak tips, BBQ just about anything I can think of. Using the pizza pan I like to cook cookies. Since the lid stays on for the whole cooking process my food is protected from the elements. It’s not just for pizza!
The Ulimate Pizza Oven & Grill For Under $500
OK. That is a huge statement that I am making, but, I really believe that this setup will give people a charcoal grilling machine that has the ability to cook amazing pizza. Pictured here is a Weber Performer grill ($329.00 on Amazon) with the KettlePizza basic package installed ($99.00). Hanging from the tool hook is a KettlePizza Pro Pizza Peel ($39.00 – available soon) and inside the KettlePizza opening is a 15″ aluminum pizza pan (included in KettlePizza kit). Total cost – $467.00.
This combination gives you the ability to make your pizzas right on the attached table next to the kettle! The Weber Performer also has the added feature of a gas startup burner to get the charcoal or wood up to temperature fast. Did I say that all these products are Made in USA! In the next few days I’ll cook some pizzas with this setup and report on how things come out!

Stainless Steel Model Update 3/19/2011
We were able to test the newly designed stainless models this week. The results were better than we expected! The slightly shorter chamber provided higher temperatures and more heat flow than before. The stainless is actually slightly thicker than the cold rolled steel so the heat retention was a bit better than expected even with the “HOT” vent cutout in the front. I am very excited to get these into some of my customers hands because I know they are going to love it.
I am waiting for one more part to arrive at our shop so I can start boxing these up and shipping them out. Bare with us, it should be any day now!
Stainless Steel KettlePizza version is in the works!
Lots of my customers have asked if we could make a stainless version. Well, here it is! Production units in stainless will be available in Spring 2011.
Comprehending additional items for the KettlePizza…
I’ve spoken to many people who love the KettlePizza concepts and it has gotten me thinking on some add ons. The first is the ability to use the KettlePizza on an 18 or 26 inch kettle. This is easy to solve and I already have the conversion kits on the works. Some other ideas – a rotisserie – this is a straightforward design improvement that can make this happen. Larger charcoal starting chimneys to get some more heat right off the bat. Extra long shish kabob skewers. If you have add on ideas send them over!
Second Order of Steel Submitted
Just submitted the order for the second production run of steel. The steel gets cut with the laser and then goes to paint before coming to the shop. Should see the order in a few weeks…
The KettlePizza Oven Blog
Hello and thanks for visiting my blog!
My name is Al Contarino and I am an inventor. This blog is about one of my inventions – the KettlePizza Oven. I have lots of experience in manufacturing and so I challenged myself by attempting to design, manufacture and sell this product completely in house. A big endevor especially when everything you see says “Made in China”.
I often hear people say that the USA is the home of innovation and that China is the world’s manufacturing center. My question is how long can we continue to be innovators if we keep “offshoring” all of our manufacturing? Innovation comes from experience, the manufacturing process is part of that. If we do away manufacturing we will lose this valuable experience and soon we will lose the ability to innovate.
I hope you enjoy this blog, perhaps it will motivate some people to consider manufacturing more products in the States.
